Language: Morocco has 2 official language Arabic and Amazigh (berber). Due to its strong French influence, French language is widely spoken. In touristic areas, a wide selection of languages is spoken.

Religion: Morocco being predominantly a Muslim country, there are 5 prayers a day. Some services and businesses may stop at these five moments of the day particularly on Friday mid-day.

VISA: Most visitors to Morocco do not require a visa and are allowed to remain in the country for 90 days on entry. Check with your own country’s Department of Immigration or the Moroccan consulate or embassy in your country if you need a visa.

Currency and Payments: The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is the official currency of Morocco. The majority of local ATM machines in touristic areas accept major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Service charges may apply. Stores and restaurants in touristic areas typically accept payments by credit card.  Small businesses and artisans within the Medina usually accept cash only.

Tipping: In Morocco tipping is optional given that a service charge is usually included in the bill. However it is always appreciated if you enjoyed the service.

Electricity: In Morocco, the standard voltage is 230 Volts, the standard frequency is 50 Hz and the power sockets that are used are of type C with 2 pins (same as continental Europe).

Stay Tax: Hotels have to collect a stay tax of 19.80 Dirhams (c. €2) for “Clubs de Première Catégorie” (4 star equivalent). The tax is levied per night and per adult staying in each room. A minimum of one tax per night and per room is levied if no adult is staying in a room (occupied by children under 12 only)

VAT: Value added tax is 20% in Morocco. Certain sectors levy 10%. This is generally applied in large businesses such as hotels, department stores and restaurants when a VAT receipt or invoice is provided with a VAT amount and number
